Eyewitness accounts indicate that tensions have been building in recent weeks following allegations that Abiola offered a sum of N15 million to other aspirants in a bid to persuade them to step down from the race. Hon. Amb. Chief (Mrs) Lamiidi Rukayat Tolani Balogun is said to have shunned the meeting where the alleged N15 million was offered, while the affected aspirants not only stepped down from the race but also threw their weight behind Hon. Lekan Abiola.
As the protest gained momentum, it spread beyond Ward 4 to all six wards within Akinyele Constituency 1. Protesters were seen marching through major areas, chanting in unison that they desire a female representative and expressing unwavering support for Rukayat's candidacy.
Many participants described the demonstration as a call for change and inclusivity, emphasizing the need for leadership they believe will better reflect the interests of the constituency.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the incumbent or his representatives regarding the allegations or the protest.
