Hon. Amb. Chief (Mrs.) Lamidi Rukayat Tolani Balogun has emerged as the consensus candidate for the Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections under the platform of the People's Democratic Party.
The consensus declaration was made on Wednesday during a well attended stakeholders’ gathering held at Alade Event Center, where party leaders, loyalists, women groups, youth representatives, and supporters across Akinyele and Lagelu local government areas converged to affirm their support for her candidature.
Speaking at the event, party stakeholders described Rukayat Balogun as a grassroots politician with years of commitment, loyalty, and service to the people. They noted that her emergence as consensus candidate reflects the collective desire for experienced, inclusive, and people oriented representation in the constituency.
Supporters at the gathering praised her leadership qualities, accessibility, and contributions to community development, expressing confidence that she would provide effective representation if elected in 2027.
In her acceptance remarks, Rukayat appreciated party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in her, promising not to betray the trust bestowed upon her. She pledged to prioritize youth empowerment, women inclusion, infrastructural development, and quality representation for the people of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency.
She also called on party members and residents of the constituency to remain united and committed toward achieving victory for the PDP in the forthcoming elections.
The event witnessed massive turnout and celebration as supporters chanted solidarity songs and slogans in support of her emergence, with many describing the development as a major step toward strengthening the party’s chances in the constituency ahead of 2027.
