Security operatives have intensified efforts to rescue the 39 abducted schoolchildren and seven teachers kidnapped in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, with troops reportedly blocking all escape routes around the National Park forest where the victims are believed to be held.
Multiple security sources said the kidnappers have been effectively contained within the forest and, under mounting pressure, have dropped some of their earlier demands, including the release of detained terrorist commanders and the provision of vehicles, and are now mainly focused on securing ransom payments.
The victims were abducted on May 15 when terrorists attacked three schools in Ahoro-Esinle, Yawota and Alawusa communities.
Security agencies expressed optimism that the hostages would soon regain their freedom as rescue operations continue and the net closes in on the abductors.
