The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday took a firm stand on the worsening electricity crisis in Ibarapaland, adopting a Motion and condemning the Minister of Power, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu being son of the soil for what lawmakers described as gross incompetence that has made electricity supply across the region and indeed Oyo State as almost nonexistent. The Federal Institute of Industrial Research, Oshodi (FIIRO), Lagos has revealed that rising cases of organ failure and cardiovascular diseases in Nigeria may be linked to the consumption of foods processed with locally fabricated grinding machines.  The Director-General of FIIRO, Dr Jummai Adamu Tutuwa, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists, citing research conducted by the institute.  She said a comprehensive assessment carried out by FIIRO scientists in 2013 found that locally made grinding machines used to process tomatoes, pepper, onions, melon seeds, and other food items—particularly in Lagos metropolis—contained traces of heavy metals such as lead, copper, chromium, nickel, cadmium, and manganese, as well as non-heavy metals including calcium, magnesium, zinc, and iron.  According to her, prolonged consumption of food contaminated with these metals may contribute to increasing cases of cardiovascular diseases and organ ...

Three United States aircraft carrying troops and weapons have reportedly arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.   According to the New York Times, the first plane arrived in the capital city on Thursday night, noting officials from both countries said the first batch of roughly 100 US troops will arrive in Nigeria over the weekend.   By Friday evening, three planes were reported to have landed in Maiduguri, with equipment being offloaded from one of them.   These first arrivals mark the start of C-17 cargo planes heading to three different sites across Nigeria, a US Defence Department official told the newspaper, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of operational details. Terrorists suspected to be bandits have attacked Oba community along the Correctional Centre Road in Isanlu-Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State, killing one person and abducting another in a renewed attack that has thrown the area into panic. Auto Ads A man, Lukman, has told Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, that he is no longer interested in his marriage to his wife, Aderonke, giving troublesomeness, constant fight, infidelity, and threat to his life by the latter as his reasons.   Lukman stated that he found it hard to live in peace with his wife since they got married because of her troublesome and destructive nature. The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 arrested a Kannywood Star, Samha Inuwa over alleged Naira mutilation.  Inuwa was arrested following a viral video circulated on social media platforms where she was seen conspicuously cleaning mucus from her nose using Naira notes. Following the release of the viral video, the Commission swung into action by tracing and subsequently arrested her to answer questions. She is currently being held at the Commission's detention facility while investigation is ongoing. The suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
